Play Time

I'm waiting patiently to be contacted by the breeder to schedule a time to select my little boy Vizsla, Ralphie.  But I think I still have a two week wait.  In the meantime I've been searching dog parks in the area.  I found four great parks near my home.  There are some really nice parks including an agility playground, dog wash as a rinse off after playtime, and separated fenced in areas for big and small dogs.  I'm really lucky because there is a dog beach nearby as well.  Oh Ralphie is going to have a good time in these parks.  I realize I won't be able to take him to the dog parks until he's 4 to 6 months old, but it's fun doing the research ahead of time.

What Other People Think

So I made my decision...I'm going to get a Vizsla puppy!! This was definitely not an overnight decision.  I've been thinking about a Vizsla for at least a couple of years.  The two people in my life who know me best, Erica my daughter and Rusty my son fully support me with this decision encouraging me to go after what my heart desires.  How wonderful to have such a great support system!!  Erica even volunteered to watch Ralphie on her days off while I'm at work during the day!!

Unfortunately, the reaction from the acquaintances in my life have been quite different.  I've heard "are you shhhhurrr you want to have a puppy" or "puppies are soooo much work" or "why don't you adopt a dog from the shelter instead" or "puppies take soooo much of your time and these comments go on and on.  Even men who I briefly dated, I would casually bring up I was considering another dog.  One said to me, "you don't want to do that" and the other sort of just snarled, turned up his nose which I read "ick" from his expression.  Are they worried about my dogs taking time away from them or are they worried about the dog hair in their fancy Mercedes or Lexus!  LOL These people do not know ME.

My thoughts...I did consider adopting a sheltered dog, but I want a full bred young Vizsla and the shelter had no Vizslas.  I know puppies are a lot of work and take a lot of time because I've had puppies in my past. But I also know puppies bring innocent joy to your life.  OH, and I know I would not consider any gentleman friend in my life who is not a dog lover as I am. LOL

My kids and I always talk about going after our dreams... to go after what will make you happy.  And that's exactly what I am doing.  I'm waiting for my little Ralphie to be a part of our family.

Just for Ralphie

I went TJ Maxx this afternoon and for some reason something draws me to the pet section...haha  Oh, Ralphie is on my mind!  I must of stood in front of the pet beds for a half hour trying to figure out what would be best for Ralphie.  I'm wondering is it big enough, is it too small, what color should I get, black will show all of his shedding hair, is it comfy enough?, Vizsla's can be quite boney...decisions, decisions.  Well here it is...and along with the bed I had to pick up the cutest squeaky bird for my new bird dog to come!!  Of course, my Ollie got a special treat too!

The Family

The last 7 years it's just been me and Ollie.  Ollie is my most loyal friend that I ever had.  Ollie is my little 12 1/2 year old Yorkie.  He's beginning to slow down lately but still has that feisty terrier behavior.

Before I moved to FL Ollie had a big sister, Jazz.  Jazz, my Vizsla, was left with my brother in Ohio when I moved.  Jazz was older and her health was declining and I felt the transition to FL would have been too hard on her.  I was very lucky my brother adopted Jazz and she had a wonderful senior life.  My brother's family loved her as much as I loved her. I am so grateful Jazz had a fulfilling, long life.

So now I feel we're ready to add a new addition to our family.  Ralphie will soon be here to add spark in our home.  Ollie and I can't wait for that day!

It's a Vizsla!

I finally made a decision to get a Vizsla.  His name will be Ralphie.  I don't have Ralphie yet, as a matter of fact I haven't even picked out Ralphie!  Ralphie is only 2 weeks old.  I'm able to pick him out in 3 more weeks and then take him home at 8 weeks old.  I'm so excited and counting the days when I go to see all of the puppies.  Ralphie is one of these 9 pups!!
