Ralphie's Brother

Two totally different breeds ...

Ralphie a young, strong, sleek, energetic, stunning dog...a Vizsla.
Ollie an old, small, fragile, fuzzy, stunning dog...a Yorkie.

Yes and they are brothers.  Little Ollie is Ralphie's older brother.   Despite his size, Ollie is the alpha dog in our home.  Ralphie respects Ollie.  Ralphie is very patient with little old Ollie.  And today Ralphie let Ollie have HIS day.

Happy 15th Birthday my dear Ollie!  You may be deaf, blind, have dementia...you are still a feisty one!  Ralphie loves you.  I love you!

The Intelligent Vizsla

Sure we live in sunny, warm Florida, but it does cool down a bit during the winter months. Thus, the pool water cools down to a temperature where you really wouldn't want to jump in.

I was playing with Ralphie yesterday, just tossing the ball in the backyard and he fetches it, throw again, again, and again.  One toss ended in the pool ... oh no, what is Ralphie going to do?  Normally he eases in the pool by walking down the steps, gets the ball, swims to the other side of the pool, gets out and shakes off.  So I figured, that's what he'll do.  Does a dog really know about temperature, whether the pool water is cold or warm?  This video shows you exactly how Ralphie gets the ball in the middle of  Florida winter...

Tell me, how smart can a Vizsla be?  How did he know if he used his paw to paddle the ball closer to him so he doesn't have to go in to get it?  In the summertime, he would go in!

Paddle, paddle. "Come on ball come closer to me!"

Happy 2015 from Ralphie!

It was a quiet New Year's Eve.  I'm getting over a bad cold, now in week 3, so I simply wanted a nice, relaxing evening at home.  I ordered a pizza and just vegged with Ralphie and Ollie.

My neighbors across the street were having a party.  It looked like they had friends over with their kids.  It sounded like the kids had a ball with their sparklers.  At midnight, fireworks were going off left and right...boom, boom, boom!  Needless to say, Ralphie does not like booms!  LOL  He's a big baby.  LOL  With the sky lit up and the booms in the air, made Ralphie so excited that he literally was attacking me with his doggy kisses.  No need to feel left out being alone on New Years Eve ... Ralphie filled the bill... uncontrollable slobbery kisses as if he knew what to do when it hits midnight on New Years Eve.  I just love my boy so much!!!  Yes, I am surely blessed.

Christmas With Ralphie

We had a wonderful Christmas holiday!  Yes, yes Santa spoiled Ralphie even though he was quite naughty this past month with the Christmas tree.   What is it that dogs love Christmas ornaments?

Returning home from work one day Ralphie destroyed about 8 ornaments which included a couple treasured ones...my son's ornament he made as a child in 1986 and an antique ornament from my childhood days.  So the next day I blocked the tree with my coffee table and two chairs.  I come home from work...another 6 ornaments smashed!  He must of jumped on the table to reach the higher ornaments. Overall Ralphie attacked and destroyed about 20-25 ornaments!

I'll have to come up with an idea for next year to keep him away from the tree...maybe a giant baby gate to wrap around the tree.

Doggie Hall of Shame

I'm beginning to see why Ralphie is 5 pounds overweight!!  I now have my eye on him during meal times.  

Ollie knows when to stop eating and will walk away from his food when he's full.  After Ralphie is done devouring his own food, sneakingly Ralphie strolls over to Ollie's bowl of leftovers and eats his food!  Oh yeah, Ralphie is very sneaky!  Ralphie doesn't care if he's stealing from his old, blind, deaf brother!  It's all about his tum-tum!  LOL

With this naughty behavior I think Ralphie needs to be entered in the Doggie Hall of Shame...LOL

Thankful

Just some random pictures of our Thanksgiving Day today.  Both Ralphie and Ollie enjoyed the turkey and much as we all did.  Ralphie had fun with his pug cousins, running, chasing each other, tug-a-war, and wrestling.  I am so thankful for daughter and son...they are the BEST!!  Of course, I am very thankful for Ralphie and Ollie.  I feel so fortunate to still have Ollie at almost 15 years old. I couldn't be any luckier to have Ralphie in my life...he's added so much love and laughter to my once whirlwind life.
